I’m going to get real honest with you…having your very own lash business is friggin awesome!
There’s something incredibly fulfilling and satisfying about being your own boss and running your own business. For one thing, nobody is peering over your shoulder or tutting at your handy work. Plus, you don’t have to answer to anyone but yourself and what could be better than that?
In this episode of Lessons of a Lashpreneur, I share seven reasons why running a lash business has transformed the lives of women across the globe and allowed them to reach dreams that may otherwise have been impossible.

1. Lashes is one of the quickest ways to run a profitable business
It’s never been easier to be a business owner. And, it just so happens that lashes are by far one of the quickest ways to build a profitable business. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s the easiest way. It’s not. But, the lash industry tends to have very low overhead, and we’re in very high demand.
If you want to get into lashes, you don’t have to fork out your life savings to cover the cost of education. All you need is a certification, which is usually around $1,000 to $2,000.
Another advantage is the fact that we can charge a premium price point. Lashes is delicate work. It takes time, skill and patience. So, you can set a premium price point and make a lot more money for your time and services.
2. A lash artist can become fully booked within a year
Did you know that most businesses fail in the first 18 to 24 months of business?
Thankfully, that’s not the case in our industry. With the right marketing strategy, a lash artist can become fully booked within a year. I’ve seen it happen. It took me eight months to get fully booked. Speaking from experience, it’s 100% possible.
The first six months of business is usually the hardest. But, once you pass that initial ‘slug period,’ things will start to look up and book up. If you put an effective marketing strategy in place and focus on the growth of your business, you will become profitable. Trust me.
3. You can enjoy a flexible schedule
Want to take a luxurious vacation with your family?
No need to check in with the boss! Just give your clients a heads up and pack your bags!
You’re in control of your own schedule. You can take Thursday mornings off for a yoga class with the “good teacher” and not have to explain yourself to anyone. If you want to take weekends off, go for it!
This is your business, and nobody is dictating your schedule.
Live your life how you want and work when you want. That’s the beauty of running your own lash business – you have complete flexibility in your schedule.
4. Consistent return clients make the need for new clients less over time
Over time, you’ll eventually reach a point where you’re fully booked. You don’t necessarily need to take new clients unless you want to.
Don’t get me wrong. I would never encourage you to stop marketing. You’ve got to stay on top of mind and prepare for the ups and downs of the business.
But, there may come a time when your clients will do the bulk of the marketing for you through word of mouth and positive referrals. This means that you can be a little pickier about who you take on as a client.
5. You get fulfillment beyond just a job well done
It feels good to make others feel good.
As a lash artist, you get paid to make women look and feel beautiful. Confidence is a precious thing, and sometimes all it takes to make someone feel good about themselves is a small change.
Most of us fell in love with lashes because we had them done and loved how they made us look and feel. At least, that’s how it was for me. I always wanted to love my job. I didn’t want to struggle with a job I couldn’t stand.
With lashing, I know I’m in the right profession. I love to make others feel good about themselves. It makes me feel good too!
6. Dare to be different
The majority of the world works for someone else. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, there’s something brave about challenging the status quo and working for ourselves.
We know the risk involved, and yet, we dare to be different.
When you launch your own business, you create something that didn’t exist before. You turn your dreams into a reality. A lot of people may look at lashes as a hobby or means to pay the bills. But, when you own a lash business, it becomes so much more than a job. It becomes a way of life.
7. Unlimited opportunity for growth
The lash industry is a rare gem in that there’s unlimited opportunity for growth. It’s still a relatively new and fresh industry with a lot of potential.
You can educate others by speaking at conferences, developing products or coming up with new techniques or styles for doing lashes.
With lashes, you can be the lash artist and the educator.
Inspiring other women from around the world to pick up a pair of tweezers and start lashing is a great thing. Plus, it gives you an extra source of income. You could launch your own podcast or start a Facebook Live show to help grow your audience and create a legacy for yourself.
If you can take away just one thing from this post, make it this.
