Our inner thoughts can be a real buzz kill. They have the power to bring you down so fast you won’t know what hit you. Think about it. How often do you find yourself saying things like, “You can’t do this,” or, “How could you be so epically bad at something, you completely lost it?”
You’ve probably had similar conversations in your head and said things that you’d never say to another person. Yet, you have no problem saying them to yourself.
You become your own worst critic. Your own worst enemy.
So, why do we keep doing it to ourselves? It’s not like we enjoy feeling less-than, right?
I’ve been getting a lot of questions from fellow lash artists who ask things like, “What if I fail?” and, “What’s the worst thing that can happen to me if my business fails?”
I can see that some of you are overflowing with anxiety and instead of avoiding difficult questions like this, I’m going to go head first and tackle them right here, right now. In this episode, I’m finally going to stick a pin in this conversation about failure and reveal what would be the worst case scenario for you.

What is the real worst case scenario?
Let’s kick this off by letting the cat out of the bag. The worst thing that could happen to you as a lashpreneur is this…your business fails, and you close up shop. That’s it. Once that happens, you can either quit for good, start your business over again or go work for someone else.
Starting over may seem like a living nightmare, but it’s not as bad as you might think.
You’re not starting from square one. You have more experience and knowledge than you did when you first started.
If you end up having to go work for somebody else, you don’t have to return to the same life-draining job you had before you launched your business. You can find a new job that you actually enjoy (yes, such a thing exists!)
Even though shutting your business down is the worst case scenario, you WILL survive.
Your ‘worst case scenario’ isn’t forever
Your worst case scenario isn’t permanent. As you move through each season of your life, things change, and they’ll continue to change. Nothing lasts forever.
When we live in constant fear of failure, it limits us from getting on with our lives. It stops us from grabbing new opportunities because they were disguised by fear.
Most of us strive to find a balance in our lives. We want the perfect work/life balance because we don’t want to live in fear. We want to escape the chaos and find a balance so that we can live and work comfortably. And, there’s no reason why you can’t find that balance.
Every time you ‘fail,’ you learn something new and you can use that information to help make better decisions in the future.
That’s what failure is. Your failures are just lessons that you needed to learn.
Finding your way back from ‘hitting rock bottom’
Let’s imagine for a moment that you hit rock bottom. Your business shut down or maybe you still haven’t launched your business because you’re afraid it’ll fail. You feel like things couldn’t possibly get any worse.
So, where should you go next?
Well, when you’ve hit rock bottom, there is only one way you can go. Up.
Clawing your way back to the top can seem like a huge undertaking and maybe you’re scared to even try to make it to the top.
But, if you’re too afraid to go after what you really want out of life and your business, you’ll stay stuck where you are right now. If you’re afraid to start because you think you won’t be able to support your family, fine. That’s a legitimate concern. But, it doesn’t mean you can’t at least try.
You don’t have to go all in at once. It’s okay to start small.
You could work part-time for someone else to make sure you get a consistent pay check while taking on lash clients on the side. Doing this gives you the financial safety net to fall back on and it lets you work on building your own business on the side.
It’s time to change your perspective
Most of the time, the thing that holds us back from building the business of our dreams is our own negative mindsets. We’re too busy thinking about all the things that could go wrong that we’d rather not try at all.
When all you think about and focus on is the possibility of failing, that’s all you’ll be able to see.
Your mind will look for evidence of your perceived failure in every nook and cranny of your life. You’ll keep looking for things that justify and support the theory of your failure because you’re so focused on it.
But, what if you focused on the positives instead?
I challenge you to start thinking about your success as inevitable. If you can learn to change your perspective and turn it into something positive, you’ll start focusing on all the good things in your life.
When you’re too busy focusing on your fear of failure, you’re only wasting your energy when you could be focusing it on things that will actually move your business forward to get you the results you’ve wanted since the beginning.
I want to hear from YOU. I want to hear all about your positive perspective shift because first of all, I love it when people think positively about their businesses and secondly, it’ll help give you some accountability to actually make this positive change in your life.
